License Directory

About

The License Directory is run by licenseedata.com. It brings public license records from many agencies into one place, so you can look up a licensee, compare professions and states, and check a license's status without searching each agency's own site.

The directory republishes the public license lists of state and city licensing agencies: every licensee in each list, from contractors and electricians to nurses, physicians, attorneys, real estate agents and cosmetologists. Each license type is filed under a profession; those that fit none are under Other Licenses.

What the statuses mean

Each agency words its statuses differently. The directory groups them as follows, and every license page also shows the agency's own wording.

Active
Licensed and in good standing (for lists with no status column, such as Texas and New York's home inspectors and appraisers: not past its expiration date).
Suspended
Suspended, for example for a lapsed bond, insurance or judgment.
Expired
Past its expiration date or not renewed.
Inactive
Cancelled, closed, surrendered, retired or out of business.
Revoked or denied
Revoked, denied or refused renewal.
Pending
An application or reinstatement under review.
Other
Any other status.

Corrections and removals

Every license page has a link to ask for the listing to be corrected or removed. You need an account to send a request, and you can follow its status under My requests. The license itself can only be changed by the agency that issued it. You can also email us without an account.
